Technological excellence program in elementary school, in collaboration with The Israeli Society for Excellence through education

This program is for 6th grade students and is active in 20 schools throughout the country. The objective of the program is to create a learning environment integrating science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM), offering talented elementary students a program developing cognitive skills, increasing creativity and exposure to these interdisciplinary fields. The proposed learning environment deals with products from our daily lives, showing the human complexity and wisdom in each of them, understanding the natural combination of the STEAM fields.

Another important objective of the program is to promote excellence in technology. As in every field (for example, singing, sculpturing, theatre) there are many people and students who are gifted with above average talent in one of these fields.

Our goal is to find these students, who are not necessarily the best students in theoretical studies and to help them develop their talent and focus on fields they are good at. The program is intended for talented students (according to the expanded definition above) in the 6th grade and is based on a weekly 2 hour meeting. The program is divided into three stages:

  1. Experiencing research of products in daily use.
  2. Working on a final project in which students research products from their daily lives.
  3. A concluding event in which the outstanding project of every school is presented. In addition, two students from each school receive an ‘unseen’ task.

The program is led by trained teachers from the participant schools.
